AIDS: Positive or Negative?

Not everything about being HIV positive is negative. Does that make sense? It seems that it does to more and more of those diagnosed as HIV positive. Many are finding that a positive attitude is more important than their positive diagnosis.

Take for example, ?The Positive Singers.? This is a 50-person male chorus that sings at the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas, Texas. They sing anthems of hope, love, joy, and praise. Somehow they?ve taken what most would consider to be a devastating and highly negative condition and made the best of it. It?s an inspiration.

AIDS does affect women, too. Most of us know that now, but we need to stay aware and informed. The site, TheWellProject.org, shows a daily counter of how many women have been diagnosed HIV positive. The number is nearing 4 million.

Marianne Williamson, best-selling author of ?A Return to Love,? and her latest book, ?The Gift of Change,? has spoken often about AIDS and the opportunities for healing and self-love it can bring. She used to run The Center for Living in New York. Note the positive name. Not the Center for Dying, no, but the Center for Living. She and her volunteers and staff worked hard for many years to provide counseling to those diagnosed with AIDS. As of this writing, neither her center in New York nor California seems to be in existence, but you can still find Marianne?s support and encouragement through her recordings and books on Amazon.com.

Many well-known teachers and lecturers have offered positive encouragement to those with AIDS, including Louise Hay, who healed herself of vaginal cancer, and has produced both books and recordings on dealing with AIDS. See hayhouse.com for information. There she features authors like Stephen Lewis and Evan Slawson who wrote ?Sanctuary: The Path of Consciousness? about some amazing work done with AIDS and other serious diseases.

Byron Katie, author of ?Loving What Is,? and ?I Need Your Love ? Is That True?? doesn?t shy away from being positive about AIDS, either. I?ve heard her work in person with people and felt the shifts happening right there, as they began to question their thoughts and find the turn arounds that heal.

What are all of these teachers and authors saying? They tell us that a positive attitude will help us to stay in a more resourceful state. How are we most likely to heal? When we are stressed and out of balance or when we are positive, peaceful and self-loving? I think you know the answer.
